Mass Effect 1 won't launch

Just what it says on the tin.

I can't launch Mass Effect.

I open up origin. Go to my game library. Click the button to play Mass Effect.

A box that says "launching" comes up.

It says "Synching Cloud Data" and a bar fills up to 100%

Then...nothing. The "Launching/Synching" box closes and nothing happens. I tried rebooting and that had no effect.

  • There's a Mass Effect-support board here, you might get some more in-depth steps there.

However, to start with, try running ME in Windows XP Compatibility mode.

To do this, go to Origin Games > Mass Effect > Binaries, then right-click the Mass Effect exe file, and go to the Compatibility tab, where you should see a checkbox for available modes.

I've had ME1 since, well... ever.  It ran (and runs) fine on Win7, Win8, Win8.1, and Win10.  I've played it with all of them.

Bottom Line:  It's not the OS that's the problem!

Some more technical information (like a DXDiag dump as described in the pinned topic) would help.
