  • Ah, thank you.

In that case you'll probably want to nuke your local ME2 saves and try again. I suspect these files(which don't always get wiped on a reinstall) are corrupted, leading to the startup crash.

    I think they're located at Documents>Bioware>Mass Effect 2>Save

It might also be worth totally wiping the ME2 file stored here if clearing just the saves doesn't work.

Be sure to make backups first of course.

I have done all of the above a few times and still nothing , it started to fail once I went into the config to import saves from ME1 and since then it just refuses to launch and it keep on giving me the same error massage , and I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it by disc and download twice now and I though that may reset the config to let the game run like it previously did but I was wrong

    (edited)

I am going to try to wiped it and install it again and try another approach , it still may not work so pleas do reply if you think you have a solution it will be much appreciated, thankyou.

Splendid, thanks for the update. There are 3rd party tools out there that can recreate a save file for use in ME2. If the ME1 file itself is corrupt, these may provide a usable workaround.

  • Hmm... this sounds as if it could be the same problem as mine. Although that problem message doesn't pop up directly, I did find some kind of windows error tracker that looked a lot like this.

I'll try this fix. If I understand correctly all you do is delete those save files, right?

Or do I have to re-install the game as well?

If this does not work I guess I'll keep browsing the forum or make my own thread with more details about my problem.

    EDIT:

Curious... my save file is already gone... Well, then I guess this is a different problem ☹️

  • I know I'm late but I've found an easier fix (at least it worked for me).

    1. Back up everything from the Save folder.

    2. Remove the BioWare folder from documents.

    3. Start the game up (at this point it should launch without any problems)

    4. Close the game and restore the Save folder.

    5. Launch the game again.

    6. You will notice you can't resume the game.
    7. Load Game and choose the latest save.

Leaving this here just in case anyone new has this issue and is worried about losing game progress.
