Same problem here. Reinstalled both Origin and Mass Effect 3, but the in-game overlay still does not work, making it impossible to invite friends to a multiplayer lobby.
Same problem, I couldn't invite friends from my lobby, seems after the last Origin update 7/25/2015 is when I started getting this screen that tells me I most "Enable Origin in Game" on the Origin (EA) client;s Settings page to use this feature.
I did an online chat with a EA tech person who could only offer me a suggestion, uninstall Origin, clean my computer
with a cleaner and then reinstall Origin.
