Mass Effect 3 Wont Launch Windows 10

Hello,

Every time I try to launch ME3, the process appears in the task manager for 3-5 seconds then disappears.

Fixes tried:

  • replaced both awc / eacore dll
  • deleted documents me3 folder
  • Installed / reinstalled nvidia graphics drivers
  • disabled cloud saves / origin in game
  • ran everything as administrator and or in compatibility mode
  • reinstalled vcredist 2005/2008
  • disabled all firewalls / AV
  • ran activation.exe (although it didn't seem to do anything)
  • cleared origin program data (other than local content) and app data in roaming and local
  • updated origin
  • ran cc reg cleaner
  • tried both with SLI enabled and disabled
  • ran in windowed and fullscreen
  • reinstalled origin / mass effect 3
  • repaired installation (and again replaced the dll files)
  • ran SFC (see below no issues)
  • and of course restarted / tested after most of these steps

I'm at a complete loss..  if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated!

I have also attached the dxdiag for reference.

SFC SCAN:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>SFC /SCANNOW

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

So a clean install of windows 10 solved the problem.  I really don't know what was causing it but there's no issues now.  I have my suspicions that maybe it had to do with upgrading to win10 rather than a clean install.   That said I hadn't had any other problems at all in the year or so since I installed it.

I really appreciate all your help!

    Yes I did.

I ran a clean boot and it still came up with the same error.  However, the process opened for a full 20-30 seconds in task manager (although was only using cpu for a couple seconds) this time prior to closing.   Typically it only stays open for 3-5 seconds.

    Edit: added error report

I would love to say that is a step forward, but that would be exaggerated much...

Is your virus scanner still disabled? If not could you try to completely uninstall it and test again? (Please still in clean boot mode, you can go offline if you don't want to disable the virus scanner online.)

On second attempt the process closed in 5 seconds again. I think the delay may have been completely unrelated.

Yes, both windows firewall and AV are off.   I am only using windows defender which as far as a i know is part of windows 10 and cannot be removed.

You're right it cannot, and it probably wouldn't cause such issue.

But this is a strange issue, it makes no sense.

The only ideas I have left on the software side are creating a new Windows user account (to test for problems inside your current account) or installing the game to your system drive.

    @holger1405

Using a different user account did not solve the problem.  I will move the install to my C drive and see if that works.  The only other thing I can think of is reinstalling Windows 10.. which is a stretch but I have my doubts this is an nvidia issue.

Looks like another user had a similar problem even when attempting to run off on-board graphics.  Unfortunately there was no solution posted.
