We spoke about that before, didn't we?
Well, I can tell you, as said before, that it works flawless for me.
I moved 5 game just this week from my Game SSD to a different hard drive, and apart from a few GB updates for some newer games, Origin did recognized the games and installed them correctly. (I still close Origin completely before moving the files, to make sure there is no mismatch)
The process you described, (Start download > pause > Move existing files to the new game directory > resume download) works for me as well.
So, there is no general bug in this process.
The fact that it is not working for you can have a few reasons:
Permission issues.
Registry issues.
Corrupt Origin files.
Interference of a security or other third party software or service.
And of course, as always, something completely different.
Run the Windows System File Checker Sfc /scannnow and post the concluding message.
Clear your Origin cache:
All settings in Origin (only in Origin not in the games) are back to default settings after this.)
- close Origin completely. (right click on the Origin symbol in the task bar > close)
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- Type or copy "%ProgramData%/Origin" (without quotes) > hit ENTER
- Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for the "LocalContent" folder. (The "LocalContent" folder must remain untouched.)
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- Type or copy "%AppData%" (without quotes) > hit ENTER
- Now your Windows explorer should have brought you to your "C:\Users\>your user name<\AppData\Roaming" folder
- Delete the "Origin" folder inside the "Roaming" folder
- In the address bar of your Windows explorer click on the word "AppData".
- Open the "Local" folder
- Delete the "Origin" folder inside the "Local" folder
Uninstall Origin after this guide. (Scroll down to "How to uninstall the Origin client the hard way".)
But honestly, a fresh installation of Windows may be a easier and more successful way of solving both (three if you include the Sound blaster driver) problems.
Still, I only have superficial knowledge of your system, so I don't know how complicated that would be.
