What exactly is happening if you try to start a game?

I assume that with "main menu" you mean the launcher, (see picture below) is that right?
Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

It takes me back to the launcher screen. It will act as if it's booting up one of the Mass Effect games but it won't even load the splash.
It just sends me back to the launcher menu. The DxDiag should be attached now.
There are several crashes of the "nvcontainer.exe" witch is part of the NVIDIA Software framework on your system.
If that alone doesn't help, I would strongly recommend trying the community launcher.
