Mass Effect Legendary Edition Crash Ideas

I've been looking into forums and any chat rooms that I can and the answers have not worked so far. I've tried troubleshooting and nothing has worked. Here is a list of things I have tried.

*Updating Graphics Card Driver. I even completely uninstalled my PC, Restarted it, Then Reinstalled the newest drivers.

* Verified The Integrity of the game files. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game three times. Each time I went through and deleted the residual files as well.

*Allow through Firewall. I have allowed MELE through every firewall, antivirus, Malware, and Ransomware program. (also double checked to be sure)

*Windows is completely up to date (Win10)

*Update DX. The most recent Version of DX was installed at the same time as my Video Card Driver.

*Unplug USB headset. I have a headset with 3.5mm jacks for earphones and jack separately. (I unplugged it anyway)

*Unplug all unnecessary peripherals. (I did this one at a time)

*Disalbe all unnecessary programs (Disable, restart pc, try again, over and over)

*My PC is well above the recommended specs in all areas

I'd appreciate any help. Im running out of ideas.

Go to your "Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Legendary Edition" folder and move all files and folders inside to your desktop > Test.

    If that don't helps:

    • Go here.
    • Download the "vc_redist.x64.exe" and the "vc_redist.x86.exe". (2015 - 2019) You don't need the ARM version.
    • Run the "vc_redist.x86.exe" as administrator. (Right click on the exe > Run as administrator.)
    • Restart the computer.
    • Run the "vc_redist.x64.exe" as administrator. (Right click on the exe > Run as administrator.)
    • Restart the computer.
    • Test.

  • The crash always occurs in the same place. The screen that says *Press any Key/Start* comes up and the text bliks and the background animates. Everything looks good. As soon as i press a key on my keyboard, controller, or mouse the screen freezes for 2-3 seconds then crashed to desktop.

To be clear, this happens in the launcher before you launch any particular game in the trilogy?

If you have problems with the launcher, you can try using an unofficial one. Forum rules don't allow me to link directly to mods, but you can find the mod on Nexus Mods by Googling "Mass Effect Custom Launcher for Unlocking All Language Options".

  • I downloaded the mod you mentioned. I had a slight success. Bypassing the stock launcher seems possible. When I try to launch any of the three games i am shown the loading screen with the Mass Effect Relay for about 3-5 seconds before crashing to the desktop again.

I read through posts about the mod and the posts are months old but the most recent ones state that the mod no longer wokrs. The common thought is that EA patched the game so that alternate launchers cant be used. Check out the comments. You advice was useful, Im willing to try whatever else you think might work. I hope to play this soon, its been a while.

That's false, the custom launcher still works just fine.

A overprotective virus scanner could block the launcher, but if you actually can see the start screen, the launcher is also working for you and the game itself is crashing.

Please create a new DxDiag starting the game from the custom launcher.

What stuck out that gave you the idea that this method might work? It was a simple thing butI hadnt considered it.

I assume the moving of the files out of the MELE folder worked?

The VCRUNTIME140.dll error was the hint.
The old games sometimes also crashed with a VC++ runtime error if a save game got corrupted.

So it is either a corrupt save game or one of the configuration files was damaged.
