Yeah Steam works great with my controller, I have never had a problem with it. And on Origin the other game I own, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, also works fine with my PS4 controller without needing any other setup. I did try adding the games and launcher to Steam, and then right clicked on each title to set up controller settings, but it still didn't work. I have not tried DS4Windows yet, as I'm not very tech savvy, and I'm weary about attempting to download 3rd party software that will affect every game I own when I only have trouble with one game. But that's really the only option left I can think of, aside from buying an Xbox controller and just hoping that works.
That's definitely some understandable hesitation @thevaliantbob.
Do you have any other peripherals plugged in aside from your mouse and keyboard?
And just to check, though you mentioned you're using the controller wired, do you have Bluetooth enabled on your PC? If so, disabling it temporarily would be worth checking.
It may also be worth a quick check of the EA app rather than Origin to see if that's any different. That should pick up your game library automatically when you sign in with the same EA Account and just let you test this without jumping through too many other hoops.
If it's not working there either, it may be worth a clean boot of your system to make sure that's not having troubles due to another program or process.
