Mass Effect Readfile Error Crash

I just bought the trilogy on origin yesterday and Mass Effect worked fine. Played it for a little bit then went to bed. This morning I try to get launch the game and lo and behold there's a bug that crashes the game before I can even get past the "press any key" screen. I've tried repairing the game and have uninstalled and reinstalled it twice already.

The error message reads:

ReadFile beyond EOF 137+4/137 for file C:\Users\Hank\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Save\Profile.MassEffectProfile

I'm at my wits end here folks. Haven't found anything online for how to fix this.

Go to your "Documents\Bioware\Mass Effect" folder and move the "Save" and the "Config" folder to your desktop > Test.

  • Tried that out. I copied "save" and "config" and put them both on the desktop and deleted them from the Documents\Bioware\Mass Effect folder. Then I tried to launch the game, and I still got the same error. Went back to the Documents\Bioware\Mass Effect folder and it looks like they somehow popped back up there when i tried to launch the game. Repeated the whole process to confirm and got the same results

Sorry, my bad, you need to disable cloud saves as well.

    Before you move the folders.

    Good to hear! 🙂

You can move your save games to the new save folder now.

Just make sure you don't move the "Profile.MassEffectProfile".

I just ran into this same issue last night. I followed your steps and was able to access the main menu again. However, when I moved my save files back, the game does not recognize the save files as valid. I even tried not moving the save files back and instead have them be regenerated by cloud saves, and it still didn't work. Do you have any ideas on what I can do to get them to work? I really don't want to have to completely restart my playthrough if I can help it. ☹️

How many save files do you have?

You are sure you moved them back to the right folder? (Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\saves)
The game and Origin were closed as you moved them back?

It is unlikely that they are all corrupted.
