Mass Effect Will Not Start in Windows 7

When I try to start Mass Effect on my Windows 7 HP PC, the configuration screen appears, Windows says it is looking for a solution, but never returns one.

I tried changing the "compatibility" fix I found here earlier, but that did not seem to help.  Anyone got some other ideas?  Thanks.

    Silly question, but have you patched the game to the latest version? This is necessary on Windows 7.
