Mass Effect Won't Start

I downloaded and installed Mass Effect this morning. This afternoon it ran fine. This evening when I try to launch it, I get a pop-up asking if it can make changes to my system, then a blank window with the word 'Origin' at the top. This window has the normal controls to minimize or close the window, but they are unresponsive; the only way I can get rid of it is with the Windows Task Manager. Details on my system follow:

OS Windows 7 Professional SP1

CPU Intel Core i7-4790K

FAN CM Hyper 212 EVO

MOBO ASUS Z97 PRO LGA 1150

GPU Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980

RAM Crucial Ballistix 8GB

SSD Crucial MX 200 250GB

HDD Western Digital Blue 1 TB

CASE Corsair Carbide 200R

PSU Corsair CX600

ODD Samsung 24x SATA

Monitor: LG 24GM77

Keyboard: Steelseries Merc Stealth

Mouse: Steelseries Rival 310 eSports

Speakers: Philips SPA 2210

Microphone: Blue Yeti

Firestrike 1.1 score = 11,588 (graphics = 13,883; physics = 11,748; combined = 5127)

  • The problem was resolved by starting the game from the ORIGIN menu; the desktop icon for Mass Effect that was provided by the install process doesn't work for me.

Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply.

Because you use Windows 7 also go to your Reliability monitor > Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time and copy and paste or type "perfmon /rel" (without the quotes) in the new Window > hit “ENTER” and look if it has entries for the "Origin.exe" or the "MassEffect.exe".

If yes double click at the last entry for the game executable, copy the info to the clipboard, and save it to a text file.

You can attach the DxDiag text file you created (and the “Reliability monitor” text file as well) to your post in the “Reply” window with the “Choose File” button.
