It goes back to the launcher and sometimes gives an error of memory can not be written but not everytime
I recall having a "memory can not be written" issue with a game once, but I don't think it was Mass Effect. This is what I remember doing at the time...
- Make sure all drivers are up-to-date.
- Make sure game folders are not checked "Read Only.
- Run the game as an Administrator.
I've also done a number of searches with the information that you've provided to see if can find another solution, but I haven't found anything that isn't already listed in the threads linked to above.
The exact text of the error message may help pinpoint what the issues is.

OK thanks I will go back through those ones and make sure I did it all
- 4 years ago
Folders and files were checked as read only so changed that and then tried again and got this error
- 4 years ago
I change the files from read only and they just go right back how do I fix that

if it's showing a square like the image on the right it should be fine; that's how it is on my system and it doesn't interfere with any games.
Edit: Thank you for uploading the DxDiag report and error image.

Oh OK yes it is the image on the right I think just need to go through the whole thing again I may have missed something

There may be a background application preventing the game from opening. Do you have any of the following types of programs running?
- Anti-virus Software
- Virtual Private Network (VPN) Software
- Anti-Spyware Software
- Firewalls & Security Applications
- Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Clients & File Sharing Software
- FTP and Web Server Applications
- IP Filtering/Blocking Programs
- Download Accelerator and Download Manager Programs
The following article explains how the programs above can interfere and has some workarounds.
Closing background applications
Find out how to manage other programs that might be stopping Origin or your game from running properly.

- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- In the new Window, type or copy and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) > Press ENTER
- Look if there are any "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" files in the "..Local\CrashDumps" folder.
- Zip 2 - 3 "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" (or MassEffect2 & 3) files together and upload them at a free file hosting service like Dropbox or Onedrive.
- Post the link here.
If there aren't any dump files of ME:
- Press the Windows key > Write: Command Prompt > Right click on "Command Prompt" in the search results > Run as administrator.
- Copy and paste reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\devenv.exe" /v DumpType /d 2 /t REG_DWORD into the prompt Window > Press ENTER.
- Play the game until it crashes.
- After the game crashes, let all Windows crash dialogues finish.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time. > Type "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) into the new window > Press ENTER.
- Zip 2 - 3 "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at free file hosting service like Dropbox.
- Post the link here.
If you want to undo the automatic dump creation, use the command below in a elevated command prompt (As in point 1) reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps" /f

It is a "NULL_POINTER_WRITE" or "NULL_CLASS_PTR_WRITE" access violation initiated by the "bink2w64.dll".
This means that whatever the DLL tried to access was in a memory location that is blocked from access by user mode applications or completely invalid.
The "bink2w64.dll" is developed by "RAD Video Tools" but is used in many games and also in the MELE. It is in the "...Binaries\Win64" folder.
This is the first time I see this error, so we can safely asume that the DLL is fine but something on your system is interfering.
Disable Origin in game.
Did you already preformed a clean boot?
If so did you do it exactly as described below, shutting the your virus scanner and tools like afterburner down as well? Please preform a clean boot and test the Game in clean boot mode.
Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.
Make also sure that your GPU & CPU are not overclocked.
On what drive is the MELE installed?
Do you installed any Mods or did you tried to install them?Where there any error messages during installation?
No I havent gotten it to work since I purchased it over a week ago and so I havent done any mods have uninstalled it and redownloaded and reinstalled twice and I have done the clean boot now twice making sure it was correct and just tried it again and I still have the same issue of it crashing. I have tried to repair the game and everything is not working

Just a quick question. So I have the program files on my C drive and the game files are on my D drive does it matter where the files are installed because if that is the case I will have to figure out how to get the whole game installed on my D drive the c drive is not big enough.
- holger14054 years agoHero+
The games files don't have to be in the Program files directory.
Normally it doesn't matter were the game is installed, but permissions problems or problems on the drive can cause an issue.
Create a new Windows user account (Administrator) don't use local special characters, use only Characters from the ASCII table
- Reboot > Log in to the new user account.
- Test.
created a new account and removed and reinstalled the game and still will not run none of the games i dont know what is the problem i have tried everything
- holger14054 years agoHero+
More reinstallations will not help you, the problem is not with the game.
- Make sure Origin and Steam are closed.
- Go to your Install directory > "Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Game\ME1\BioGame" folder.
(Steam: <drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Game\ME2\BioGame" ) - Delete the "Config" folder.
- Test.
If that don't works either:
- Press the Windows key and "i"at the same time > Apps.
- Search for "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015 - 2019"
- Deinstall all 2015 - 2019 versions that you see.
- Reboot.
- Go to your Install directory > "Mass Effect Legendary Edition\__Installer\vc\vc2015\redist" folder and install the "vc_redist.x86.exe" and the "vc_redist.x64.exe"
- Reboot > Test.
If that works, go here and install the x86 and x64 versions. (You do not need the ARM64 version.)
Edit: Missing word. - 4 years ago
ok i tried everything and i tried to install the arm64 and it wont install and giving me the error in the picture.
- holger14054 years agoHero+
Sorry, my bad, it should have been "(You do not need the ARM64 version.)"
