ME1 audio issue - dialog & sfx in surrounds instead of center

I've been wearing headphones during play, and I notice that walking around in certain rooms, the sound seems to be anchored and projected from a particular point in the room, so depending on where you are standing will determine where the audio comes from. It was distracting for sure, but not a deal breaker for me more annoying than anything else.
