It's four years since the launch of ME2. ME3 has long since been out and I just had a very similar issue. After 40 hours of gameplay - forty very tedious hours of collecting resources, cultivating relationships, and fighting battles - the game froze dead in its tracks and I had to do a hard reboot. When I brought my system back up, the game was available and could be easily played - but my save data was no longer available. I could see the data in my save data utility, but the game wasn't recognizing it. PSN techs told me to delete the game and download it from the PS Store all over again, but I've now wasted a good ten hours on that venture. Everything I'm reading so far says that when this happens, it means the data on the game save is totally corrupted and you have to start over.
I am getting to the point where I will never waste another plugged nickel on any EA or Bioware products ever again. Every single one of my Ubisoft games (mostly Assassin's Creed) has frozen, but I have NOT ONCE lost any save data on a single one of their games. I never knew this was an issue until I started playing Mass Effect 2. The fact that EA could be this incredibly lackadaisical in its response to a massive issue with a major product in its lineup tells me that they don't care about their customers. If they have such a low level of concern for us then it's not worth it to invest a penny in their products.
