ME2 subtitles appear off-screen

Hi everyone,

I just started playing ME2 again, and I realised the subtitles have started to appear a lot higher than they should be, as in off the screen. It's to the point where I can't read the first line of any dialogue, which is hugely irritating. This happens when I play at full resolution (and I don't really want to play at anything lower than that). I haven't played it for about a year or more, and there have been 1) game updates and 2) OS upgrade from Windows 8 to 10, during this time. Not sure if these would have affected anything?

Please let me know what I can do to resolve this!

Thanks

  • Thanks @holger1405. Fortunately I managed to finally get onto EA live chat, and they told me to install this C++ developers software or something, and then I restarted my PC (which went through all kinds of updates anyway, taking about 2-3hrs and requiring multiple restarts), and the subtitles are now back to normal!

    Thanks for all your help anyway, and sorry to have taken up your time.

    @lemonteajunkie

    Windows 10 could very well be the problem here because there are no graphic driver for your notebook available at the HP website for 10.

    The thing with Notebooks is that the manufacturer often tweaks the driver to match the requirements for the specific model, and the Nvidia drivers on the HP side have release numbers that don't match official Nvidia driver version numbers, so that is clearly the case here.

    But let's start with the basics:

    The game is set to a resolution of  1600 x 900?

    Try to repair the game. (in Origin > Game Library > right click ME2 > Repair) (in steam  > right click at ME2 > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache.)

    If you have the disk version reinstall the game.

    If that don't helps download the Intel® Driver. If it gives you an not valid error during installation then what I mentioned about the Nvidia drivers is also true for the Intel drivers.

    If both the repair and the driver don't help, please report back.
