ME3 stuttering at regular intervals

For some reason unbeknownst, Mass Effect 3 consistantly freezes about every 6-8 seconds. I've made sure my connection is stable and that I am not running any other programs and the problem still persists.

In the Origin application settings, disable the in-game Origin overlay and see if that solves the issue.

  • Thank the stars ... I thought I was going mad even though none of my other games have any trouble at all.

Okay, so, yes, since earlier today, I have the same problem.. Game freezes every few seconds, stuttering its way through the waves. That might be bearable on Bronze but on Gold or Platinum it's completely unplayable.

This is, however, on multi player only. Single player is fine.

  • I'm not sure if it happens in single player or not, but I've noticed it happening in the main menu and multiplayer menu.

A few weeks ago this wasn't happening, I want to say that the Origin update caused it, but I'm not sure when that update released.

  • After trying again tonight, I've noticed that the stuttering starts happening only after the notification that the first wave is starting pops up when in multiplayer, after that it starts to mess with the menus.

  • I just reinstalled to play some multiplayer, and this is happening to me now. I get this really irritating stuttering or hitching every few seconds, and it totally screws up my aim and makes it very different to get through the waves. It's driving me nuts!

I've got tons of hours in this game in the past, never had this problem until now. I have tried adjusting video settings, updating drivers, nothing has worked so far. Every once in a while, I can get a match that seems to run smooth, but I haven't figured out the pattern for it yet. i have not played any singleplayers since I reinstalled so I can't say if it's only multiplayer or not, but that's where I am seeing the problem.

Has anyone figured out why this is happening now and how to fix it??

  • Well, I think I might have fixed it on my own. Can't be 100% certain, but I can say what I did.

The last update to my AMD drivers installed this Gaming Evolved program, that had stuff like game optimizations and a Raptr plug in. I disabled that and set it to not start with windows. I also found the ME3 configuration utility and made some adjustments there as well. I have not seen the stuttering problem since. So it may have been one or both, I can't be sure, but I hope that helps anyone else.

I also just disabled that Origin overlay as well. I don't really need that, so that was a good suggestion, thanks.

Just for reference, these are the ME3 configuration utility settings I am currently using:

    Windowed: Fullscreen

    Window Mode: Normal

    Aspect Ration: Widescreen (16:9)

    Resolution: 1920x1080

    Anti-Aliasing: On

    Motion Blur: On

    Dynamic Shadows: On

    Number of Cinematic Lights: Default

    Use Spherical Harmonic Lighting: On

    Anistropic Filtering: 16x
