Been like that since patch, but I think they just kill you and not execute you which is nice.

They are actually really slow and easy to dodge, but that sync attack can be a big surprise.

I know, but I was in firebase zero in the middle and I thought my teammates would take care of it but it went for me sadly ;p

I think I remember going through the kill slam animation and at least once didn't die from it, but had health down to about 2%. Not sure if that is because it's not really a full sync kill, or if someone else just hammered it hard enough to save me.

I think Fiends also got technical issues. They might have a fiend forum themselves where they are reporting malfunctioning till now. They are also waiting the devs to answer their questions, trying to understand why some of their friends are trapped in walls, unable to get off it and return to their families.

There was a patch note that roughly said "Stopped the Hydra sync kill from not killing people" Before the patch, most people survived it. After the patch, if it does the attack you die.
So the big question actually should be, "If someone is in position, can they stagger the hydra and save a target from being killed by the attack?" The small question is "how did you let a hydra sneak up on you?"
