No surround sound on a Sound Blaster - Applied config tweaks
I recently got a Sound Blaster 5.1 VX to replace my poor onboard audio. Just like with the integrated audio, I have no surround sound. I applied the fixes from this forum thread: http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/131/index/7389137
It doesn't seem to work. I get neither surround sound nor environmental audio. I also disabled my onboard audio in my BIOS and I disabled my GPU's audio in the device manager (AMD Radeon HD 6870).
Does anyone know whether the Sound Blaster 5.1 VX is unsupported? It seems to be a rather obscure model in the Sound Blaster series. My other PC has a Sound Blaster X-fi Xtreme Audio and the tweaks worked very well on that system. I also noticed that the VX does not support Creative Alchemy and has less features.
If I can't get surround sound to work on this card, I'll simply swap sound cards since I only use the old PC to watch movies anyway.
I sent this info to EA support as well. I'll update if they give me relevant information.
Turns out the answer was quite straightfoward: The audio hardware is not supported. Using the same config tweaks on an X-fi sound card fixed the issue.
