@gigimorphe The versions of the game itself have been updated with the EA app and when the disc was printed its a very old version with Origin which is why they won't work. If the game still has the code, you should be able to use that but if not those disc won't really work any longer. If the code was redeemed back then, Origin (pre-EA app) converted a lot of older disc copies to digital so those would be linked to the original EA account that was played on.

If you do not see them there, and there is no code, sadly they wouldn't be useable.

    Hi thank you for reply.

    the game works.

my only question was that I got quite large collection of games boxed as a collector and the physical copy many of them are working as it is not tied to server accounts.

many times companies get sold or fused and they changing policies where the game will be only a purse of unusable paper an plastic.

I wanted them to be functional even when one day EA decide to close down.

I know this probably not going to happen but I don’t see any logic to sale physical copy of the whole industry will migrate to cloud system where the collector has nothing to hold that actually can run or work.

I not just have games from dos era but also computers that are capable of running each game on that specific platform like windows 3.11 or 98 or xp or above.

I know the game industry have gone trough evolution where the physical copies become unusable.

it will be nice to have it in physical copy in case for example the cloud or server system goes down one day.

how about rose who still want to try the game in 30-40 year time.

for example if EA decide that they no longer support it and he remove the game then there will be no way to run or play the game that is tied to this online based playing.

the game cannot be installed offline because the activation check is tied to engine that no longer works I mean origin.those who wrote the code for the EA app they should create code to accept the cd and listen to the game.

I only saying this because in the past 20 year I spent over £10000 on software and 80% of them I cannot activate because the  activation server no longer exist.

so not just the money gone but also the possibility to run the software that was already purchased once.

@gigimorphe I get where you are comming from and for the most part I am the same way. I have a stack of games that are physical and most are steel book copies but I don't own them digitally. The issue there is that development changes, software changes, DRM changes and each publisher and game studio has their own rights to it.

That is far beyond anything we have control over. That is a conversation that is well beyond anything we can do here as that is not something we have a hand in.

    Thank you for the reply.

i know this is non fixable  as I use to work for crm company where I programmed servers on different platforms.

unfortunately we cannot do anything with it.

also the cloud system ideology is kind of protective measure for the game makers because many times people download cracked versions and this way the people who wrote the game not earn anything for their countless hours spent on the game development.

those who using non genuine software the will not care because they will continue with same behaviour and the rest of us will suffer.

for many part of the game that was worked before I had an idea that I make full image of the drive and storing that with the computer where was activated but some games are not working like command and conquer that was worked ok on windows xp unit and one day just stopped.

there was a workaround that was released by EA but that also not working because the XP is no longer supported discontinued.

    Even restore doesn’t help.

The only way was to install it on windows 7 where it will work in origin offline mode.

I not connected that pc to internet because I know when the game will start the origin will be talking to EA servers and there will be no hand shake from EA.

and I don’t want to install new os with the new es app and installing the game again from scratch.

I purchased boxed version of c&c where I got all the saga with codes luckily no steam or origin needed.

    to the server part

many times the developers write code where they stamping with a code the discontinued software to not talk to their servers for dos measurements denial of services and some companies just having different servers.

I already stopped purchasing many things from Microsoft and also hardwares too.

it is non fixable because even branded phones are working for short period time where the manufacturer releases new and he will push the phone out of the software development where the hardware become only a piece of electronic equipment that is no longer supported by apps.

Same story with windows 10 I own a  few license that may not going to work on windows 11 because the new hardware has no tpm 2 chip onboard.

many companies pushed down with drm and firmware sabotage from software developers where all these industries walks hand in hand to create throw away society where the majority is pushed to get a new one because most of them think when they buying hardware or software it will be their, but the truth is they don’t know that soon as they buying phones or software any kind they only going to have it for a time period.

some for few year and some for 10 year but no longer.

I know I am I different cup of coffee.

for operating system i now using GNU free software like linux trisquel and also built a phone by  myself that is based on replicant os.

both has no back doors no drm no adverts no updates. If any update is released it will be only one or it will be upgrade to new stable version.

in my opinion this is the best way.

not compared to apple or android where the updates are pushed every week or some within few days in large.

I mentioned here a wide spectrum of issues that I know we could not fix.

thank you for your thoughts and reply once again.
