PC: Outrageously slow on startup

When I go into Mass Effect 3, the startup animation with the EA logo goes fine, just as it's supposed to. The "communicating" circle appears on the top left screen and the "Checking for DLC" message is up in the center. The framerate is the same and after 10 or so minutes, the message is still up there and I can't do anything. I can't go into the in-game menu and I can't start a new game so at this point, I'm not sure what I should do.

Windows Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit

Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor

Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 650

Total RAM: 4.0 GB

I strongly believe that what you are experiencing is a loss Connection to the EA Servers. Even without the actual message of "Your connection to the Mass Effect 3 Servers has been lost......"  what you are describing sounds like that is what is happening. There are some articles which may offer some insight as to what is going on and how to resolve it.
