Re: Audio crackling

DxDiag post so we can see the hardware of your system, but honestly I haven't heard of this problem in a long while.  I think the last time I did, it was a plug that had come out just a tad and wasn't getting a good connection.  If it isn't a physical issue with your headphones or Jack then drivers, game/program interference or possibly a audio setting such as surround vs headphones either in game or in your system settings.

A lot of info, but not enough. 😉

Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that  with the "Browse" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

Unfortunately that hasn't helped at all - it's crackling to the point it's really interfering with the game 😔

What happens if you change headphones??  What happens if you go back to ME2 for a bit??  What happens if you change over to speaker output??

In game what sound settings have you tried??  Triple check to make sure Nvidia sound hasn't been ticked anywhere, and also make sure your video graphics hardware is defaulting to the Nvidia hardware and Intel GPU isn't being used.  Yeah, Yeah, I know it is a sound issue, but I have seen weird instances where sound and graphics mixed to cause odd things...one of which is static as things go funky....

Thank you for all the suggestions. I had already tried repairing the game and using different/no headphones. With speakers rather than headphones is the most playable, but because the sound overall isn't as good as when using headphones and so the crackling and breaking up is slightly less obvious, although still bad.

"In game what sound settings have you tried??  Triple check to make sure Nvidia sound hasn't been ticked anywhere, and also make sure your video graphics hardware is defaulting to the Nvidia hardware and Intel GPU isn't being used." How can I do this?

Nividia control panel should give you the options to check in on what GPU is set to run games.  You should be able to set ME3 as running ONLY on Nvidia gpu, and if not there(but it should be) then you would need to check in at your Hardware settings in your control panel.  You would be looking to set power profiles for performance and NOT any kind of battery saving.  I don't know how to get into your sounds for your system, as I have never used Win 8.1...but it SHOULD be accessed by going into your control panel and choosing system/sounds and nosing through properties and settings in that branch.  Also changing audio format, or quality levels may help too...ie in control panel settings for sound you should be able to find a listing for CD quality, or DVD and different sampling rates for each...Also changing the sound settings in Mass Effect 3 sometimes helps too, cutting some off or on....

Nvidia has sound drivers that are part of their Video card driver set...I don't see them on your DxDiag file, but just wanting you to make sure in your control panel and listed hardware devices that you didn't have them ticked.

Have you tried a clean boot of your PC??https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

If it still acts up in clean boot, and everything is set right, then it sounds like an issue with your drivers and the game...or something in your hardware, drivers and game.

If it is clean on a clean boot, then it is a program cross interference.

I made the sound quality much lower, and it may have helped a little, although it is hard to tell because it comes and goes. I am a long way through now though so I am just putting up with it! More problematic is that it is now crashing at a certain point! I just went to the Citadel for Priority Citadel, spoke to the ambassador which was fine, got elevator and it crashed. Restarted and went into elevator again, choosing different destination and it crashed again.

Did you tried the clean boot?

    For the Sound:

Did you tried to reduce Dynamic range? (ME3 sound settings)

Did you tried to reconfigure the Windows sound settings?

    For the crash:

Did you tried to repair the game again?

    Do you use any mods?

    Please post a new DxDiag.

Also, once in clean boot, how do I test if the problem is still there? Will I be able to open the game?
