I made the sound quality much lower, and it may have helped a little, although it is hard to tell because it comes and goes. I am a long way through now though so I am just putting up with it! More problematic is that it is now crashing at a certain point! I just went to the Citadel for Priority Citadel, spoke to the ambassador which was fine, got elevator and it crashed. Restarted and went into elevator again, choosing different destination and it crashed again.

Did you tried the clean boot?
For the Sound:
Did you tried to reduce Dynamic range? (ME3 sound settings)
Did you tried to reconfigure the Windows sound settings?
For the crash:
Did you tried to repair the game again?
Do you use any mods?

Repairing the game again seemed to sort out the crashing.

Also, once in clean boot, how do I test if the problem is still there? Will I be able to open the game?
