Re: DLC BUY AND PRICE

Can I second this?

Mass Effect trilogy is the first EA-owned game I've purchased & have been playing on the Xbox, and I'm half way through Mass Effect 2 so far.

But buying an older trilogy, brand new, for $30, but having the DLC for all three games that are considered 'game-experience mandatory' and/or 'plot mandatory" costing almost double the trilogy itself is crazy.

I'd really like to play the DLC, especially for mass effect 2 & 3, but the prices need to drop from their original sales price. Out of principle I refuse to buy any of the ME2 or 3 DLC until they all go on sale or are packaged.

I think offering a permanent price cut on DLC would protect your product better and win over more new fans in the long term.

Thanks for your consideration.

The AHQ is a "player-to-player" set of forums.  We're all just fellow gamers, doin' the best we can...

As for your specific subject;  Why would EA cut the price of the DLC when people are paying the original (higher) one?

None, absolutely NONE, of the DLC you have to purchase is "manadatory" to complete and fully enjoy the games. (Although I do agree with Fred that the Extended-Cut is probably a must-have, it's free!)

Think they're too expensive?  Don't buy them.  Simple.  😕mileyindifferent:

    Thandal,

agreed, not mandatory, but I think there are different tiers of 'importance' of DLC. Pinnacle Station and BDtS from ME1 were fun but very short and had little impact on the game plot/story.

From reading other's critiques and suggestions, I get the feeling that Overlord & Kasumi is much the same, whereas LotSB & Arrival become incredibly important to bridge the two games.

I think Halo, and Spartan Ops in particular, is a nice corrolary. It's a DLC extention from the game itself, not mandatory to play, but will end up being a really important part of the game & story to bridge to the next one. And as much as I've been a critical Halo fan as of late, coming over to EA & Bioware has made me appreciate Halo much more - they offered Spartan Ops for free and though I don't typically buy their multiplayer DLC, I have seen them drop in price very often.

To answer your last point, I do think the Mass Effect 2 & 3 DLC is far too expensive, so I will not be buying them. I wish more players would take a stand and not purchase this incredibly expensive piece-meal DLC from EA or elsewhere until EA & the industry starts to reign in the absurd nickel & diming that is slowly creeping into the industry. As consumers, we are implicitly supporting this expensive system every time we buy another $10-15 set of DLC missions / maps / whatever.

As for EA in particular, I'll go so far as to say that this may be my first and last experience purchasing EA games, unless they start managing DLC prices better. Ok, rant over. :-)

That's a gross oversimplification.  Why doesn't Steam follow the same thought on the prices of their games?  If people are buying them at full price, why put them on sale?

The answer is: because many times MORE people buy the game that's on sale - these are people who wouldn't buy it at full price.  It's a proven, solid fact.  Tycho talked about it with their Precipice of Darkness game.  The deeper the discount, the more people bought the game, and since it doesn't have a physical media cost, it's all profit.  $1 * 1000 > $50 * 15

If they had the DLC pack for ME2 for $20, I'll bet 90% of the XBOX players who bought the PC version on sale would just pony up the $20 instead of hassling with getting their purchases transferred.  People who've already played the game and think: "you know, I might play it again some day" would pick it up "just in case".

If Bioware/Origin would bundle up those DLC, and put them on sale, they'd see their sales go through the roof, and I'd bet they could pull in more profit from a 1 week DLC sale (especially if they market it through Steam) than they made on ME2 DLC all of 2013.
