Re: Lighting glitch in ME1

@Fred_vdp Ah, good to know, and something worth keeping an eye on going forward, especially for a game like this where the min specs to get it running are so old.

@Deyanire86 Thanks, that setup looks mostly fine. there is a slightly newer Nvidia driver available (364.72 as opposed to your 364.51), but I don't think it'll be a critical factor in a 8-9 year-old game.

Are you using a Steam or Origin copy?

If Origin can you right-click the game panel then choose the Repair option. After this finishes please check agian.

If you're on Steam can you try the Verify Integrity of Game Cache step?

If the issue persists, can you try swapping to Windowed mode and see if it does the same thing?

I am using Origin copy. I did repaired ME1 and unfortunately no change ☹️
I tried different screen res and windowed mode - still same glitch. Just to add - it is not like this light is constant, but it appears from time to time on scenes where it should not.

On the other hand I tried ME2 on my laptop and I had no problems with appearing out of nowhere lights, but when I have scenes where there is a lot of dark - the shadows start to be black and there is huge contrast between light and dark (eg. when you have scene with Miranda and Jacob in the shuttle in the begining of ME2 - everything is too dark) ☹️

I might exagerrated with buying this laptop - seems like it is too meaty ☹️

@Deyanire86 There's no such thing as "too meaty" 😉

Back on your issue, can you try a clean reinstall of your drivers? Corrupted/damaged drivers can be a problem, and they won't always be detected when merely updating them.

    Thanks.

    Hey guys,

I've got the same issue and also tried a lot of thinks. Also I opened a ticket at EA and all my Origin-stuf and dxdiag were fine. Also I just have a new installation of win 10 and so no old drivers.

    My Hardware:

    CPU: I5-6600k

    Mainboard: Z170A Gamimg M7

    GPU: MSI GTX 970

I made a short video from this light feature ;P

@Kreidler90 Thanks, that's interesting. I have a 970 at home, I'll be sure to fire it up when I get back and give it a test. That system is on W7 though, I'm not sure how much of a factor OS will be.

Can I ask when you first noticed this happening? Or has this always happened on this setup for you?

    Thanks.

I saw it the first time in the game when I talk to the captian and the spec in the game. So in the first 15 min. I would say =)

    Here is my ticketnumber: 23194545

Maybe you can look at it and see the short video I made too.

    Hey,

I had this problem also at the very beginning of the game. I'm affraid that this issue might be connected to Win10 OS and GF970 -> if there is a mix of it, game has problems. Or maybe it is connected to DX12 incompatibility... ☹️

I don't think so. My specs are I7-6700K, Asus STRIX GTX 970, Win 10 Build 10586.  I started a ME1 run just 2 days ago and anything is fine, however, I have MEUITM installed.

What are your control panel settings for the game?

    Hello,

What do you mean by control panel settings? 😉

Driver stings for the game in the Nvidia Control Panel. Du you use "Performance" or "Quality" or do you have a  profile for the game?

    Oh, this control panel 😉
I was trying different options: turning on and off some features, but nothing helped.
I also messed a little bit with ini files after this bug appeared - still no change.

I am thinking about using this mod you've mentioned.

On the other hand, take a look on animated gif I made of this glitch:

OK, back to the basics. I saw that Deyanire86 is ruining on Driver 364.51. Which driver version are you other guys use?

Are you systems multi or single Monitor configurations?

Go to the in Game Graphic settings, disable "Dynamic Shadows" "Motion Blur"and "anisotropic filtering" >  Test

If that not helps set anything to minimal, also change resolution. > Test

If that not helps we have to try NVIDIA control panel options.

I play with the latest driver 364.72

    I have two monitors

After I changed all the settings at once I don't have any more problems with the light. So I tried to get which graphic setting was the critical one. After I got back to the old settings everything was still working fine. So I restarted the game and the flashlight was back. I changed the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x1200 and then back to 1920x1080. Everything was fine =)

I got the problem also when I start the game with a lower resolution like 1600x1200. I must defenetly change the resolution in a game session.

So this may help to play the game for the session, but maybe you have to do this at every new map.

Hey, I've found some sort od solution for myself :D

    This is what I did:

    - installed the newest version of GF 970M drivers

    - reinstalled the ME1

    - turned off the Motion Blur

    - set filtering to anisotropic

    - changed the screen resolution

This problem did not appeared even after the restart of the game. I'll update you if something will happen in the future.

Holger1405 - Now I am running on that same, newest GF drivers and I have only one screen (17,3', resolution 1920x1080 - my machine is gaming laptop 🙂

And it's brand new so I never tried ME1 before on it.

Well. that is a big step forward. 🙂 I would suggest that you restart the game with just one of this options disable at the time.

    BTW, thanks for the XP.
