Re: Mass Effect 1 Crashes During Saren Citadel Fight

I tried the following and nothing worked:

1) Repair the game as suggested;

2) Lower the resolution to 2560x1440 (16:9)

3) Closing MSI afterburner and RTSS

4) Disabling G-Sync

5) Closing all apps (chrome and such)

6) Lowering all graphic settings

EDIT: Also tried playing in window mode but no luck ☹️

I had the exact same crash at the same place but I'm playing on Xbox Series X which leads me to believe it's not an issue with your PC.

    EA plz notice this!

  • Same problem on the PS5. Crashes every time coming back from cut scene when ships are attacking Soverign.

Yup, I have this on the Series X version too.

It appears to be a memory leak, as many elements in the scene stop rendering entirely during the battle. I have tried this over a dozen times now, choosing any number of ways to move past it to the game end. Different weapons, different load outs, using powers, not using powers, not attacking Saren at all . . . nothing works.

I have loaded in different saved games, some of the an hour back, to no avail. It’s almost certainly a memory leak of some kind, and cold booting the console does nothing.

This is an A-class bug. It should be a cert fail. For it to happen in the final two minutes of a sixty hour experience should be enough to prevent this game from being shipped. I know I’d have expected a fail back from Microsoft if any of my products had done this (I’ve got a very long career in game dev).

The issue is made worse by the fact this is my second playthough of the Legendary edition, and has happened on the Insanity level. I also cannot import this current character into ME2 and take a run at that while it is fixed because it hasn’t completed ME1.

Let’s get this bumped to the top of the next triage, please.

  • It’s power use. At least it is on the Series X it seems.

Turn off all power use on your allies. Only use your own powers sparingly,

That seemed to be the trick - but blimey, does that make it hard on Insanity!

  • Yes!

This was the solution on the PC version as well!

Do NOT use any powers (biotic or tech) during the fight!  Only Guns can get through this without crashing!
