Re: Mass Effect won't start

Mass Effect 1 is the most demanding of the trilogy, so even if you can run the sequels, there's no guarantee you will be able to run the first game.

First of all, post your system specs. GPU, CPU, RAM.

Second of all, when you say you updated DirectX, which one are you talking about? You need the latest DirectX 9, and since the other DirectX versions (10 and 11) are not backward compatible with DX9, updating those wouldn't have an effect. If you got the DirectX version from the game's installer, that should be fine.

Lastly, if you run the game in Windows 7 or 8, you absolutely need patch 1.02: http://masseffect.bioware.com/me1/pc/updates/index.html

AMD FX CPUs aren't compatible with Mass Effect 1, but problems only start occuring on Noveria and are limited to graphical glitches.

When you say "computer claims ME can't be found", you're talking about the patch, right? There's a fix for that in one of the sticky threads. (Run Origin as admin.)
