@EA_David wrote:@garionorb Can I check on your exact audio setup? If you have details of your PS5's audio settings that might help too.
@EA_David I use a Sony receiver, STR-DN1060, connected from my TV using an optical cable. Standard 5.1 surround speaker setup. PS5 connected to the TV with the included HDMI cable. Audio settings on the PS5 is set to "Dolby". This works for all games and movies/TV except this game.
Hello
the Reddit post is on
theres quite a bit of comments on the threat but the original user was
sephirossgeller
my setup is
ps5 to Samsung q9fn via hdmi
arc to onkyo to-nr686
Same issue here, ps5, 7.1 channels, Sonos sound system, Dolby output
Got the same issue. My PS5 is set up for 7.1 with Dolby but all conversations are coming from my surround speakers instead of the center one. Out of conversations, some speeches do come from the center speaker though
Same issue, running on Logitech Z5500 via optical direct input from my TV from my PS5.
I'm having the same issue. PS5, 5.1, Denon S650 receiver, HDMI ARC connection.
Same problem here, at least I'm not alone with this. I'm using 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup from Samsung. PS5 > sound bar > Philips hue syncbox > Sony Bravia TV. First game to have this problem.
@CarvapercI'd like to add that surround is working, but my problem is mostly with conversations. When you talk with someone, almost all the vocal sounds comes from rear speakers. I did try playing without rear speakers and I did hear all the sounds coming normally out from other speakers. Oh and I use AV amplifier, 7.1 ch, Linear PCM.
There are quite a few posts about this on the mass effect subreddit--
I am playing on PC. While surround sound works in the both ME2 and ME3, surround sound does not work in ME1
I can't get anything to work except stereo audio. Don't get anything in my surround speakers or center.

How did you get surround to work at all? The game only outputs stereo.
- @Trarloe confirmed I have the same issue on my 5.1.4 setup. At first I thought it was an issue with my setup but I put in Horizon zero dawn/ Ratchet & Clank and it upscaled appropriately. So pretty sure it’s an issue with the game.
- @StarWarDude44 I don't know, it just works. I have no problems when running around, only when talking with NPCs rear speakers blasts vocals almost double louder than front speakers/speaker, and gun sounds come out from rear speakers too.
- @Carvaperc Exactly... ingame sound is in surround and works fine. Turning the camera around when npc's are talking to each other for example...
Same issue. Ps5 to Sony x900h (HDMI 4) to Yamaha tsr700 via eArc. Ps5 set for PCM and receiver set for surround decode.
Same issue here. Playing on PS5 with a Sony X900H and Sony STR-DG710 Multi-Channel Receiver in 5.1 setup. Have tried multiple settings on the TV, receiver and PS5. Hope this gets patched. Not sure how this didn't get mentioned in any preview coverage for the past week.
- @EA_David How did this nonsense escape testing? It’s impossible to concentrate on the game with voices coming from the rear.
My setup is ps5 via hdmi to an LG TV, and then audio from the TV gets sent to an Onkyo 5.1 receiver over ARC. @EA_DavidI have no audio coming from anything but the left and right channels (and sub) regardless of how I set my 7.1 AVR which is a Denon Avr-s730H. I am playing the EA Desktop/Origin version, using HDMI for everything, playing at 4k/60fps+HDR. I have an X-fi fatal1ty sound card, though I believe it is bypassed when running everything from the RTX 2070 Super to AVR via HDMI. I believe there may be something that can be done with an .ini file in the ME1 Config folder based on a fix for ME1 sound from 2014, a post I found on EAs forums like this.
As I type this, I can no longer open Mass Effect Legendary Edition on my PC anymore. I was going to see if surround worked on my 5.1 computer speakers hooked into my x-fi sound card, but now I get a message from EA Desktop saying there was a problem on EAs end, try again a little later. it won't open on Origin either. While trying to verify files with Origin, it thinks I have a file in use even though I don't. Now I have to troubleshoot shoot this so I can troubleshoot the audio issue. EA Desktop and Origin both really suck, I must conclude. Please try looking at the suggestions for editing the ME1 .ini file from 2014 elsewhere in the EA forums and seeing if any of it can be applied to this version.Playing 5.1 on pc and the sound only comes out of the left and right channels.
@EA_David Pc connected to tv via DVI, tv to Onkyo amplifier via optical - stereo speakers. Doors do not sound like they are opening but when behind me I can hear them close, subtitles show up for npcs talking around me but unless I get right up on top of them I cannot hear them, gunshots are absurdly loud...the entire balance of the audio is off.
I also have this problem. PC is connected to my Nakamichi soundbar via HDMI. Selectong stereo in my PC’s sound settings gives me surround sound, but any other option (5.1, 7.1) had NO surround sound. Stereo is a temporary fix as the audio is terrible compared to 7.1 that I usually get from other games.
I will also say, I played the original Mass Effect in January and I did not have this problem. Surround sound audio worked normally. Can we please please get a fix for this **ASAP** — how in the world did this get past testing?
PS4 Pro PCM with 5.1 surround sound. I have not touched the game since - it’s literally unplayable for me in this state. If enough people make a stink about this, Sony may start offering refunds.
The screen tearing is another issue entirely, but at least it’s only in certain locations - this surround sound fix needs to come sooner rather than later, please.
I have the PS4 Pro connected directly to my Pioneer Elite VSX-30 via HDMI using PCM. As with most users here, I have used this setup since day one. I have opted to just use stereo and headphones. Like I did in 2007. Which should tell you something about this problem in 2021...
Exactly the same issues of dialog and bullets playing louder than they should and on the rear channels for ME1. Voices come from the center speaker on occasion when exiting a conversational moment, which sound fine if only because they come from the correct channel.
Additionally, when in the Citadel Towers, when the camera (not the character, the camera) is facing away from the water feature, you can hear it in the front speakers. When you place the camera looking AT the water feature, it comes in the rear speakers. AND LOUDLY.
*also...as an aside, I did a thermal paste swap on my PS4 Pro, put it on a laptop cooler, took off supersampling, and put it on performance mode. I can still cook a pretty decent grilled cheese sandwich on this thing during conversational moments. That is to say, the console gets HOT to the touch.
@EA_David - This issue should be priority #1 to fix.
A gamebreaking bug to anyone using a surround sound system, but all I can see on the "Tweets" are how you're patting your back on how good this remaster is.
How about some feedback into what you're doing? It's gonna be a definitive refund claim for me if this is not fixed within a week.
PS: To all PC players having surround sound issues - I believe you're able to fix it with this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2487160511
This issue actually persist from when the original ME1 launched.
