[Resolved] Mass Effect 3 (2012) Activation Error

Hello! I am unable to play Mass Effect 3 (2012) on the EA app. It continuously gives me an error about needing an activation/product key, but the launcher seems bugged, and clicking the option to manually enter my product key just tells me I'm offline (when I'm clearly not). I originally owned ME3 back on Origin and now through the EA App after the change to this one. I have already tried removing the License folder based on other troubleshooting from here and from the N7Squad community as well as completely uninstalling the game, clearing the temp folder, and using Revo Uninstaller to manually clear all related files from my computer. I also tried creating a new admin user on the computer (despite the one user I had already being an admin as well) and installing through this, and I've used the system file checker to look for corrupt Windows files, but nothing fixes this. Customer service has been of zero use, not reading my messages and giving me the same troubleshooting runaround before marking this as "no fix available". One agent specifically denied trying to just apply a new product code to my account from the backend, saying it wouldn't fix it. I even resorted to submitting a Better Business Bureau complaint, but the EA HQ in San Francisco seems to care as little as customer service did, as they don't seem to have even read my complaint, giving me the same runaround to remove the "License" folder and then simply to contact support. It seems their solution is also inaction and just hope the problem goes away.

I've been an EA fan for over 20 years, but showing this little care about a paid product not working is very concerning. I'm hoping there is something that can be done here. Please let me know if anything else is needed from my end. Thank you!

EDIT: Sorry, I missed the post about including the DxDiag text file. I have attached this now.

I fixed it on my PC.  I deleted the Mass Effect 3 licence in the ProgramData>Electronic arts>EA Services>license folder.  Then it loaded and put a new license in the folder.

@Handsomechemist You are still getting that old Origin pop up that says please log in when you launch the game? This is not the in game message to log in correct?

I am also having the same issue and also have no luck trying to send inumerous messages to the "support" which can only ask me to "disable" my wifi conector (which would only disconect me, since my computer have no RJ45, but it is a ASUS ROG) which seems only a way to "pass the chat to another rep.

I attached the error screens. Hope someone here can help me out.

Just tried that as the amazing "service bots" of support have not provided that solution before trying to deactivate my internet, same result.

@alankozlo With this error it only comes down to a few things. The game you are launching cannot be validated either due to one of the following:

    Wrong EA account

Downloaded through EA Play and EA Play expired

    Old license download
Install is on another HDD or SSD

The validation isn't recognizing the registry key you have on your hard drive. If deleting the license folder and repairing the game does not work, the the only other options are - wrong account, or old download from a subscription or someone else's account.

CMs don't really help with that as we are not support. If the account you are logged into does own it and not through EA Play, its a download issue with old files.

I have purchased the game, no subscription stuff, just tried taking out the license folder and it did not worked, the account is mine, correct one, It was indeed on another drive, as My C: is smaller so I deleted once again the game and just reinstalled on the C: to make sure. Still same issue. I have 0 Interested on multiplayer, I just want to be able to play my local game solo... darn I hate EA... should I try to explain how much I am hating EA? I already sent messages to Bioware about it, on Steam I am able to play Mass Effect1, 2 (without the adds on).
On EA I am able to open Mass Effect 2 (yeap, I purchased the SAME game with the adds on on EA) and I am able to connect to Cerberus database with no issue with the SAME account. But as it seems, EA wont allow me to play Mass Effect3...

@alankozlo I understand that it is indeed frustrating not being able to play. Now that you have the game and the platrom you play through on the same drive, can you repair the game in the EA app, or Steam and launch it again?

The issue is on the PC. This isn't the EA app or the game. It is files related to the game. It is not reading the registry correctly when older games are installed. It does not affect just Mass Effect. It affects other older games because they were linked to Origin and not the EA app which is why we have players delete these license folders and reinstall. This way the game and the registry are correct.

@alankozloI totally understand your frustration.  Far, far too many posts here about ME games failing to work since EA transitioned from Origin to the EA App.  And tech support is 10% hit, 90% miss.

A couple of suggestions, both which may be unreasonable, but I'll throw them out there:

    1) Try it on another PC if available.  Heck, even if not, consider a friend/family member's PC.

I know the EA rep has said this is a PC issue.  But doesn't hurt to affirm (and provide some sanity).

    2) You'll hate this one:  ME Legendary Edition is on sale for $4.79 right now (at least in US).  It lacks the MP, but you said that isn't an issue for you.  You also get the improved graphics and all the other DLC content.  I know you are probably loathe to give EA any more $ to address something that shouldn't have occurred in the first place.  But it's an option.

    Best of luck.

  • I have the same problem, did you find a solution? I tried every suggestion but nothing works.
