Besides me, does anyone else think before this story arc is over you are going to have to fight the manipulative AI with it's own agenda that lives in your head?
Mark my words; SAM is not your fri...
1) The "memory blocks" will work for blaming Dad only so long. That he can't seem to figure out a way around them is a thin excuse at best... that they unlock with triggers in places no human has ever been, or as progression points, completely implausible. Dad set that up in advance? C'mon.
2) He can kill you at any moment and fails to mention that... until he needs to kill you. How is that symbiotic? More like it is easier to retrieve a tool than make a new one. Maybe that is traumatic - but like losing an arm traumatic. He can get a new one.
3) He cannot find/speak to any other SAM... until you find them and then suddenly that works fine.
4) He volunteers little for information that doesn't suit his own devices except for keeping you alive for the moment. He's more than happy to suggest we lie to the VI hackers though. I have to manually dig through Nexus security footage and ask for enhancement with a VI that will automatically crack through alien security codes and open doors without being asked?
5) Even by the end of the game you're not much more than a convenient platform for carrying him around. Dependent on him is a better word. They make you dependent on him from the beginning of the game. You even joke about it.
6) The whole alien VI introduction was to warm you up to the idea of a lying manipulative VI. I shot the thing so I'm not sure how they are going to make SAM appear sympathetic by blaming (or seduced) without its' inclusion in the storyline. They'll just pull something from thin air I suppose - like with the Rachni.
I'll think of more, and add them here later if someone else doesn't beat me to it. 🙂 Guessing for endgame is calling the twist. I just know it is there - not how they answered it.
Lastly, maybe snark. Bioware has been trying to convince us to choose the synthesis ending for how many years now? The conflict in game will break the fourth wall here... I just hope they have written it well.
