Saving in Remnant Vaults (possible spoilers for new players)

There have been many threads here about the inability to save on certain priority quests, especially Remnant Vaults, so I won't go into that.  But yesterday I was in the Remnant Vault on Voled, the one where you can alter the weather pattern, and found that I could save in certain locations.  Now granted, it wasn't listed as a "priority" mission (although I think it should  have been, after all your purpose as a Pathfinder is to establish settlements), but it was a quest for Voled in the Heleus section of the journal.

I'm just wondering if Bioware actually changed something within MEA without announcing an official path, or if the "no manual save" situation is linked strictly to priority missions.  Not complaining if they changed it, just curious, and maybe the vault I was in was just different from the others (it was rather small, being only one level).

I think it's working as it should be, regardless the fact it's awful. Aside the two planets you need activating vaults because of the main story, all the rest are not mandatory, although you are aware that your job configures making as many planets viable as possible. I think we don't even need to set foot on Eladeen to finish the game, do we?

  • Manual saving is disabled in certain locations because the savegame can end up in bugged state. Sadly, autosaves can also be bugged and are a cause of plenty bug reports.

The reason why manual saving is disabled in some areas is certain trashmobs not present upon entering a location but spawning on a trigger, the triggerstate is saved but trashmobs being dead or alive state is not so they don't reappear upon continuing after defeat and in the case you have to kill them all to progress where they're not present any more uopn reloading an autosave will bug the game.

Basically it means you should make a manual save before entering any vault and if you die inside a vault, you should not continue from autosave but reload your manual save.

Which just seems like an odd design decision to me.

I'm only in the middle of my 1st playthough (habitual completionest), but as I see it, my primary objective as a Pathfinder is to create sustainable settlements on as many of these "golden worlds"  as possible.  Entering the Remnant Vaults to  alter the atmosphere/living conditions is my goal.  Dealing with the Kett and all the other situations are part of that, hazards I must contend with, negotiating when possible, environmental situations; but my I shouldn't loose site of my ultimate goal.  Lives depend on me and my decisions.  So a design decision to have some vaults and/or planets optional doesn't make sense from a game play perspective.

    I agree.

I also MEGA agree with odd design decision all over. Although you, as a player, know what you main objective is, Ryder is just played around, like a ball to fix everything, making him involved with everything in return; in addition to his job, of course.
