Scaling Past Level 80

So..... why are we punished for leveling past 80?

In alot of games, it makes sense that enemies scale to the player - which is exactly what's happening here.  The reason it makes sense in those games is because character levels actually increase base stats.  In Andromeda, all our level equates to is Skill Points and E-Peen.  They don't actually make us functionally stronger or better able to kill enemies.  We could consider that we unlock level 6 profiles - but that hardly affects stats enough to justify the current scaling.

My problem is that after 2 runs of busting my behind and wrestling with the lack of save on (Normal than Hardcore),  I'm now trying to kick back for a narrativeplaythrough.  I'm max level - and these enemies are taking as many hits as day 1 when I started on normal - not hurting me nearly as much, but they've become health sponges.  My squadmates mow everything down, but with all maxed/augmented gear, I lag behind them.  They are one shotting enemies, I am close, but not quite.  I tried bumping up the difficult to just Normal.  At level 130+ - Biotic Detonations don't even kill regular Raider units with just health bars... Ahdi, the basic soldier - they all take 2-3 detonations - that just isn't right.  Bump that up to Insanity and you're literally depleting all the ammo you could possibly hold onto one enemy.   Guns like the PAW have to be recharged some 4-5 times before you can kill an Annointed. (Shields+Health considered).

I have a huge problem how every enemy's scaling in this game simply = more health.  It makes Insanity cancerous - seriously, I have no intention to touch it outside of testing circumstances - I'd rather do 5 Multiplayer on Gold than waste 80+ hours on fights in Insanity.  It is not even difficult - it's tedious.  I played Habitat 7 on Insanity - and after that experience is when I wrote it off.  Didn't die a single time - for the record - but it still took 3 damn hours because even Predator X and Avenger X take 1 or 2 clips to kill a damn Kett Chosen.  That is poor balance.  (also the insult of giving me a 3rd weapon towards the end, but me not being able to equip it lol)

That's where you lose me, as opposed to previous Mass Effect games.  Enemies always got health buffs for sure - but nowhere near in the same vain as now where you need 5 clips to kill one unshielded kett.

It's quite simple Bioware - since I can reach level 6 in a profile quite easily by 80, and my gear will be maxed at 80 - then the dang scaling needs to stop there as well... instead the enemies now have a near 50 level 'advantage' over me - that's not how scaling in a game is supposed to work.

Secondly, even if you do sort it out that the scaling stops at 80, you seriously need to fix how Difficulty scales as well - Difficulty does not equal more health - all more health is, is time wasted.

Please fix both level scaling and difficulty scaling.

  • For me its not a matter of difficulty, Is not Easy vs normal vs insanity, that I can understand.  For games that are too difficult just dial it down, no lost of pride here.  But to me it's the consistency, the process that's in question. It's the ability caps that we get vs what seems so far no level caps for the enemy. One can argue that there's no level cap for MEA but there is a cap to abilities.  Especially the followers, they can easily max out all their skills and power on the first playthrough, on my second playthrough they have a ton of access skill points just sitting there.  My Ryder's above 100 level, weapons are all X level, my entire tech tree is filled up every one power 6.  So no additional bonuses.  That for me simply isnt balanced. So enemies continue to get better and stronger as you level up.  Shouldnt that be the opposite?  I dont mind fighting tougher opponents, but not sweating over a generic Kett Chosen.  It's like wow you leveled up, congratulations, now you will be more incompetent.  That to me just simply doesnt make sense.  Am now on my 3rd playthrough and starting from lev 1 again.  Am having more fun that way.

Reviving this thread because the problem is relevant, i guess not many people are going over level 80+ on Insanity, otherwise they would have noticed how brokren the progression system is.

Power damage and detonator scales so bad that even killing basic foes at level 100 Insanity is a chore, weapons barely scratch them. It's not the difficulty the problem, it is the bullet sponginess.

So either they stop leveling up both the player and enemies after level 80 or they buff up the gains from passive abilities to keep up with the absurd spongy enemies.

As it stands, playing NG+ on Insanity is not rewarding... it is tiresome.

  • why would insanity be rewarding :D it's meant to be a challange and judging by the posters it is 😉

    It's not more challenging.

    It just takes longer.

    There's a big difference.

I have three characters over level 100 now and it's just boring to play them now.

They don't even give you enough ammo to kill ONE enemy. You have to restock ammo at least once for every enemy.

Probably you never played Bloodborne, didn't you? I've got the platinum on it and that is a challenging and rewarding game.

You clearly missed the point here, it is not difficult, it is boring, i dont die i just have to spam ammo and combo endlessly because their health pool is inflated beyond belief and your stats doesn't scale well.

This s not a challenge but a chore.
