So .... DLC Prices huh

At the moment on Steam, I can buy Mass Effect 2 for US$5.

I can also then spend AU$10 to buy Bioware Points to buy Shadow Broker which was released over 4 years ago.  And I can't even use the 20% off offer that is currently on the Origin store as it doesn't apply to Bioware points.

The DLC is costing materially more than the game.  Even buying Arrival or Kasumi will set you back more than if you bought the game.

One day, I'll buy Mass Effect 3 and finish off the story line but I want to play the full story and do not feel like being completely screwed out of my money for it.

Unfortunately, this really colours my view of Bioware and I haven't bought any Bioware games since I finished Mass Effect 2 about 3 years ago.  Clearly no one actually cares as the lack of discounts for the PC DLC has been raised multiple times and in multiple forums without actually addressing the issue.

The other gaming companies deal with this issue successfully.  Why is it so hard for Bioware/EA?

  • you are joking right?..... Your joking, please tell me you are joking.... your not? ok! A steam sale on a game does not always mean the DLC will be on sale either. and just because the game itself is dropping in price due to age, doesn't mean DLC will do this. You are seriously stating that just because there is a SALE going for a game, that the DLC should be 1 buck a piece to satisfy your need to get everything at so low a price that you don't feel like you're hard earned cash is wasted? Let me make this clear, as a big mass effect fan. I bought the trilogy, and almost every DLC for all games on the xbox360, loved the hell out of every minute, period, even the DLC's. If you're buying the DLC for a single playthrough just for story purposes, then not even touching them again, you seriously need to rethink how you view games and DLC. If you are worried the price of the DLC is not worth it, let me give it to you straight. No one person and their vies, their morals, their likes and dislikes, are the exact same. I cannot say for certain if you will like something, but in a general account on the DLC for Mass efFfect 2, the arrival and Shadow Broker DLC are well worth the money you put into them, great additions to an already great storyline, and it tops the already frosted cake with the proverbial cherries. Their well worth the money, sale or not. if your worried because the game is on sale on steam and the DLC is not, then here's your answer... ITS THIRD PARTY! meaning the game is on sale to get, everything else is still published and given through a third party vendor, which in this case is Bioware, who is not having a sale on their stuff. Other gaming companies either accept their DLC as being on the sales for steam, or they don't. Bioware is a division of EA, who's COMPETING with steam. be lucky EA even allows their game to be sold on steam where you can even get a deal on mass effect 2

Yep.  DLC never goes on sale.  Of course.

Skyrim DLC is currently on sale by 50%.

Borderlands 2 DLC is currently on sale by over 60% with a complete bundle available at a reasonable price.

Borderlands the presequel DLC is currently on sale by 20% and it has only just been released

Bioshock Infinite DLC is currently on sale by 50%

These are on sale on various platforms.

Heck, everything else on the Origin website is on sale by 20% except for Bioware points.

Why, what? You most be a troll but if not.

I am also waiting for the DLCs be on sale. They are not in steam but so what? they are in Origin and EA should discount them.
They do have them on sale on the console but not for PC.
Yes yes a lot of people think the DLCs are good. IMO the DLC is too expensive for the content included you can even buy the core game cheaper! And you can't decide how much I am willing to pay.
It is good that you can enjoy multi playthroughs. I do not, most games I buy I only play through once. You seriously need to know that people have different preferences. And there is nothing wrong about that!

And too. EA put them on a sale already!

I don't believe the OP said that DLC should be available at for $1, but given the rather abhorrent treatment EA/Bioware has given PC gamers regarding this particular issue, I would have no objections to this at all.  Indeed, I'd welcome it.

Again, you are putting words into the mouth the OP has not said.  He never mentioned that he was going to play through the trilogy, and then wipe all traces of ME from his HDD/SSD/Origin/Steam account and never play it again.  He simply stated he wanted to play through the complete game (let's face it, ME3 without From Ashes and Leviathan is hardly complete) without paying full price for DLC for games that are three to five years old.

Hell, I want to play the complete game, too, even though I haven't had any of the ME games installed on my PC for well over two years.  But no way in hell am I going to pay the prices EA/Bioware wants PC owners to pay for DLC for games that are three to FIVE years old.  And I doubt I'm far from the only one.

Oh, and you played the original trilogy on the 360.  So that means you purchased it on a platform where the DLC could be had for 50% on a number of occasions for that console.  Did you puchase any at that discount?  And if you didn't, but could do it again, would you?

You seem to be rather gung-ho about imposing your beliefs with regards to this issue.  That's fine.  To say that something is 'well worth the money' (or not, in the OP's case, which happens to follow my own viewpoint), you're well within your right to proclaim your opinion, regardless as to how ridiculous I feel it might be.

I originally purchased Mass Effect 2: Collectors Edition back in January 2010 on the night of its release for $85.    I felt it was worth the money...at the time.  I then bought all the DLC for ME2, apart from the alt. appearance packs, which set me back another $30.  Again, at the time, I felt it was worth it.  Mostly.  Actually, I thought Stolen Memory could have been better, and Arrival, aside from bridge the gap between ME2 and 3, really didn't do all that much for me.  I found LotSB and Overlord to be superb, however.

I later bought Mass Effect: CE in March of 2012, again, for $85.  To be succinct, I can tell you that while I had a mostly enjoyable experience with the game, I was completely disgusted at the ending, so much so, that I gave my CE copies of ME2 and 3, as well as my hardcopy of ME1 and my original Origin account awayto a friend.  To say that I think ME3, in my eyes, at the time, wasn't 'well worth the money' would be a huge understatement.

However, that same friend, around the holidays, gifted me Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.  On Steam.  Of course, I figured I could get the DLC on sale on Bioware's site later on (this was before I found out about Bioware's policy on DLC sales for the PC...)  Being the bit of a completionist as I am, I looked at Origin's website, and surprisingly had the ME3 Digital Deluxe Edition for $20, which, I thought (ending notwithstanding) was a pretty good deal.  I replayed the trilogy in early 2013, minus the DLC I had for ME2, which lessened the enjoyment I had playing the first couple of playthroughs with that game, although the Extended Cut did somewhat soften the blow with regards to the tragic(ally bad) ending(s) of ME3.

Up until I finished ME3 the first time, I was quite an enthusiastic customer, if not supporter of Bioware products.  Baldur's Gate, MDK, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Dragon Age as well as Mass Effect are some of the Bioware franchises I've enjoyed over the past 17 or so years.  But my enthusiasm for the company has sharply diminished with regards as to how ME3 was handled, and subsequently by finding out how EA and Bioware have consistently screwed PC gamers over the past five years with regards to DLC pricing/sales.

Which isn't to say I'm not a fan of Mass Effect anymore;  As much I despise the ending of the original trilogy, I'd still like to stroll through it all over again a few more times...with all the story-relevant DLC.  But I won't, because as great as you think it is, I don't think it's 'well worth the price' at this point.  At a 50% discount...sure, why not?  But full price 3-5 years after release?  Forget it.

I do believe that the majority of EA games that exist on Steam were released before June 2011, before the release of rather dubious Steam-wannabe called Origin debuted around that time.  I believe it may be that EA may very well face legal issues from pulling those games off Steam, rather than any act of charity on EA's part.  Therefore, I don't think the OP should feel any gratitude towards EA with regards to still being able to purchase Mass Effect 2 on Steam...
