Some questions about biotics

Alright I am trying to make a nice biotic build, but there are some things that are quite confusing or not enough detailed. For instance, the 5a Barrier skill gives +40% max shield when there is one active biotic effect on a ennemy, what does it exactly mean? Does someone has a list of what this includes? I tested and it seems to work when ennemy are primed, basically, but as soon as they are detonated, the +40% shield buff seems to instantly disappear. So is it only worth to take if you make a Annihilation, Singularity or CC build? Because with my Vanguard (who doesn't have Annihilation), I detonate pretty much everything 0.5 sec after I prime it, therefore I would never benefit from the buff. Is it more or less how I describe or is it more complex? Same question with 5a Offensive biotics (Increases damage from all sources against enemies suffering ongoing effects of the user's biotic powers), this one is much harder to test though.

Also, does 5a Throw primes already primed ennemy? It seems sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. For instance if I prime an ennemy with Incinerate, then use Throw, and then Charge, there are two detonations, but if prime the guy with a 6a Nova (or Pull, but I used Nova for testing), then use Throw, it detonates, but it doesn't prime, so if I use Charge right after, it doesn't detonate. Is it because you cannot prime and detonate the same type (biotic, tech, etc...) of combo at once? I think the same happens with Incinerate for instance, it cannot auto-prime/detonate itself if I recall correctly.

Thanks in advance!
