It's clear they used Sloth as basic beauty and thought it was ok. For female Ryder.
Really it is so bad i had to restart the game 4-5 time because the character in game was looking creepy.
I didn't like the default ones too. Luckily for me i found out a guy which did a really good preset for female rider (i've seen it in many yoitube video so i guess a lot of people used it) otherwise i would have had a really hard time playing with a face i didn't like.

Yeh, I think that face (the nineth) is the easiest to get "good looking". My Sara:
