Very important question
Andromeda Initiative launched in late 2185, and Mass Effect 3 ended around the middle\late 2186. As far as we know, almost all endings includes the explode of relays. If we assume that the time inter...
Okay I think we need to clarify something. That light was purely for the player's purpose. There is no way that happened - because 10 minutes after the endings, not everything is lit up in the hue of the "Explosion" as you call it. So unless the light instantly dissipated even within the milky way, it never existed at all.
That colour was Biowares depiction of the Relays activating to serve their true function. But realistically there's no way, in-game or not - that these explosions happened. They were 100% there for our sake as the player to have some semblance of understanding to what was happening which was a shot of energy being cast into space - and since energy itself isn't inherently visible, they had to make a visual depiction of some sort, and hence you get your "explosions". I don't think they were meant to be a light based phenomena, just an interpretation of energy.
lagruej, It's an interesting thought. But I think these "energy waves" was visible, like example: In moment, when Normandy made the hyperspace jump, Joker definitely saw the energy wave which followed Normandy. And if the choice was "Synthesis", then immediately after the "crash landing of the Normandy" we can see the effect of this "energy wave" on the crew, this means, that the wave has instantaneous effect on objects.
