is anyone else having trouble with these races? i seem to have lost just as many as ive won and more often than not if you "just" win a race you gain less points than you lose if you "just" lose a ra...

I don't blame you though. I was quite inactive for quite a while.
I've been playing other games mentioned in my signature other than No Limits.
I finished 113 place in Blackridge Rivals Season 5. I'm very disappointed in myself for finishing at such a ridiculous position.
The reason why I even did this bad was I took risks of not fully tuning my Koenigsegg CCX for many races against low SP drivers. I underestimated so many of these low SP drivers.
I have the mentality of using as few Tools as possible while winning races at the same time, but that didn't pay off and I paid the ultimate price.
Blackridge Rivals Season 6 will be my redemption season. I'll be driving my CCX on the last five days of Season 6.
Even though I did abysmal in Season 5, there were some races I did that I feel like sharing.

Second and third screenshots - Racing against my nemesis
Early in Season 5, I raced Blake and lost due to me driving my car untuned. Then I got a shot of getting my revenge (which I did).
A race against a cheater.
Same as Blake above, I lost to JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY when I was driving untuned. I got a shot at getting my revenge (and I did).
A race against the #1 CHN crew member.

And my last interesting race was with Jin.
He messed up on the launch and that gave me the win. lol
I did race two of his ghosts before this one and lost to both of them. He got Perfect Launches on those ones.

@THEJAJO No, the game's performance itself is fine on my side.
My only problem is my SlowPod Touch Crashing Generation keeps crashing on me whenever I do a race with lots of stuff (Particularly Blackridge City tracks like Blackridge Strip). It crashes during the race, causing me to lose a Special Event ticket or some SP for every crash.
I was even very close on losing the McLaren P1 because of my SlowPod.
