Cannot install HD content!

Hi,

I know this game is pretty old but I still want to play this enjoyable game.

So, the first problem that I encountered when installing the game is that it needs to install 1.6GB of HD content.

When I select a storage device, it says that the content needs to be installed on a XBOX 360 Hard Drive.

It says: 'Device not allowed. The game only permits installing HD content on the Xbox 360 Hard Drive.'

I have an original XBOX 360 (and not the Slim one!) and I have an external Hard Drive (Official XBOX 360 Seagate 2T Hard Drive).

Can the content only be installed on an internal hard drive or also on an external one?

I tried to install the HD content on the storage of the XBOX 360 itself and on the external storage, but it gives the same message every time.

Please help me! I cannot return the game and it would be a waste of money if I cannot enjoy the game.

Seems like the game is the opinion you don't have an official Microsoft XBOX 360 harddrive.

it is already discussed here - when I understood it correctly that check came with an update:

If your internal and your external harddrive is really official, you should go and contact the EA Helpdesk, otherswise it seems it can't be helped to get an original drive because of bad decision of someone in charge of this change at EA.

BF4 seems to suffer the same fate. Found also an article about that issue.

Sorry to have no better solution for you atm.

    Thank you for your reply.

I already read that post, which discussed the hard drive issue. Unfortunately, it didn't help at all with my problem and the most important link did not work (for me at least).

I will contact someone at the EA Helpdesk as I have no other way to fix it.

I heard that BF4 has the same issue. Such a same.

I am already happy that you replied to my post! :D

Hehe, sometime you have to enjoy the little things in life 😇

If the Helpdesk does not have an idea, did you already tried to reformat the HDD (only if you don't mind to loose the data on it or saved all your personal data). Maybe something in the filesystem, rootfolder is altered or corrupted in a way the game is mislead to think the external HDD to be a non-official drive?

I just don't know what is different from an official Microsoft Xbox HDD compared to a normal stock HDD. It can only be a thing of "pay extra money for the brand's name", if you ask me 😉

I will contact the Helpdesk first.

I was also confused when I could select a hard drive - it looked like the xbox did not recognize the external hard drive as a hard drive, but rather as a USB storage, which is really weird.

Maybe that could be the problem. The external hard drive I already reformatted it at least once now.

In addition, do you have any clue on how to solve the problem if really something in the filesystem is altered or corrupted?

Unfortunetaly I don't own a Xbox at all, so my experiences with it are very limited.

But you say it shows up as an USB storage? Because when I looked up a german manual how to prepare a HDD for a Xbox 360 it first shows as an "USB Storage Device" but finally it is entitle with "Memory Unit", when the process is finished. So it could mean by formatting it via PC you are only half way through.

As far as I understood the process there are two options to do it - via PC or via Xbox itself. The manual I found used both method to ensure everything is setup correctly in the end. I will try to translate the process as good as possible:

Step 1: Connect the USB HDD with your PC

Step 2: Format it with fileystem "extFAT" - the plan is to make it absolutely unreadable for the Xbox, because the correct filesystem would be "FAT32", but for now, use "extFAT"

Step 3: Connect the USB HDD with your XBox 360

Step 4: Go to My Xbox --> System Configuration --> Storage (for now, the drive should show up as "USB Storage Device")

Step 5: Select the "USB Storage Device" and choose "Configure Now" to let the Xbox format the drive with FAT32 automatically

Step 6: A warning may appear about performance issues. Just ignore it.

Step 7: If formatting is finished the device should now be named "Memory Unit"

To test it, they suggest downloading some common media file the Xbox can play to the HDD now via the PC. The media files should then be playable via My Apps --> Video/Music/Picture-Library

This is the German manual, but it has English screenshots in it, maybe it helps anyway if you are stuck:

    https://de.wikihow.com/Eine-Festplatte-zur-Benutzung-mit-Xbox-360-formatieren

Hope this will work. Because the Official XBOX Seagate 2T Hard Drive you have should really be recognized as a high perfomance device for the Xbox 360. Is it this external one with the Xbox branding and the green cover and black casing? https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/08/seagate-unveils-expensive-green-2tb-hard-drive-exclusively-for-xbox-one/

The article says it is an exclusive Xbox One HDD, but on the website Seagate is advertising it for the use for the Xbox 360 also. So if everything fails, you could ask their customer support why the heck your drive isn't recognized correctly by your Xbox 360 - they should now which conditions must be met to do so.

    Best luck 🙂

First of all, the hard drive that you linked is the right one. On the package it says that it is compatible for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Furthermore, I tried to reproduce the steps in the German manual but unfortunately it didn't work. The hard drive still gets recognized as a USB memory stick. I did not get the option to "Configure Now" but I still got the option "Format" on the Xbox.

Thank you for all the help! I guess the only thing that is left now is to contact whatever Customer Service I can.

Sad to hear, but it was still worth a shot.

It seems that really only one of the customer services (Seagate or EA) can really help you out on this one. Please let me know if you found a solution. Maybe other people will be helped with this information too.
