I am by no means an expert in this, (10+ years in PC repair and refurbishing) but what did you edit in the registry, messing with the registry can cause even more issues. since you said your issue is spread across multiple games, and that you had a directX error, i would start with that error, but since you haven't said what the error was there isn't much to go on, i would try the following with a PC reboot between each step (Start>power>restart)
#1 download the newest drivers for your graphics card, then uninstall your old drivers reboot and install the new drivers, and then reboot. (yes extra steps but makes sure they are cleared)
#2 Download directX from microsoft's website directly (don't use a search engine) and install it.
#3 check out the systemrequirementslab dot com's website for CAN I RUN IT link and let the site scan your PC to make sure your PC has the needed components to run said game
if after each step above (except 3) you get the same error and #3 says you meet the recomended requirements to play.
if you DO NOT meet the recommended requirements but do meet the minimum system requirements make sure you lower all game qualities to LOW to get adequate performance.
if you don't mean the minimum requirements then that is what is causing this issue. else then there could be something corrupted in your OS, run a elevated Command prompt. (run as > administrator) and type in SFC /SCANNOW
if THAT does not help. then more details would be helpful as to what is causing this (event logs, dmp files dxdiag exports system stats)
hope that helps.
