I've had a similar problem with my game too, and I have a Radeon GPU. Once this error happens, I have to reboot the PC to get the game to work again, otherwise I just get a black screen when I try to start the game back up. There's probably some process or other that I can track down and restart etc, but rebooting doesn't take that long, so not really any hardship.
