Error trying to find the Directory...

Hello! I recently got a new computer and have been trying to play Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, however, every time I attempt to launch the game, I get the error shown below.

"Error trying to find the Directory for the Game Config File: C:\Users\[user]\Documents/Criterion Games/Need for Speed(TM) HoT Pursuit Remastered\

This means that you will not be able to save your configuration settings, but the game will run with the default"

I've also noticed the Criterion Games folder never appears, even when I try verifying the game's files on steam.

I've seen and tried several solutions, including turning off controlled folder access or adding the game to it, turning antivirus off, as well as resetting the computer. None of these solutions have worked out for me.

I do still have the game installed on my old laptop. Could that be the problem?

If not, what can I do?
