How do I access online multiplayer on PlayStation 4?

In order to access online multiplayer on PlayStation 4, you need to have a PlayStation Plus code applied to your account.

If you have already tried to access multiplayer before redeeming a PlayStation Plus code on your account, you will not be able to connect to online play. If this happens, just purchase and redeem a PlayStation Plus code and then restart your game completely. This will allow you to access online multiplayer.
