Multiplayer without being online

Question

This is the first racing game I've purchased in years. I cannot seem to find a game mode where i can just play against my brother. we both live together and would like to just do a head to head match up using the same system, same TV, but all I'm seeing is online play and this story mode. Is it possible to play against him without the online play? i remember old racing games you were able to do the split screen and race against someone your hanging with but it seems impossible with this game.

haha it's really seems you haven't bought a "need for speed" game in years, since (i think...) Need for Speed Shift you can not play a split screen mode. Don't you know? This is Electronics Arts, they want to connect everything with everything disconnecting everything with everything, this is how it work's.

Need for speed most wanted: The most socialy connected videogame EVER (unless you have a freind who wants to play sitting next to you) rivals would have been great with split screen but EA got lazy.
