Need For Speed does not start

I'm just posting this here because the support asked me to.

Need For Speed on steam does not work.

Troubleshooting makes no difference, the game just does not start.

This is a widespread issue and the game is going to be bombed with negative reviews on steam as a result.

  • Okay I've done the DSIM and SFC and deleted and reinstalled the game and somehow it's working now, but I have a new problem: I bought a PS5 controller to play this game and the others I bought because Xbox controllers are straight up worse, but the glyph mapping is terrible and re-binding them to sensible options (accelerate on X, brake on square, handbrake on R1 and Nitrous on L1) has led to the car somehow slowing down while I'm holding down the accelerate button, and the brake button opens up a menu instead of braking. Why doesn't anything just work straight away?

    Hey @dizziless

To confirm which NFS game we are playing?

Also, can we try the following when you have a moment?

    Thanks!

  • Hello. It's Need For Speed Deluxe Edition. I haven't tried the other ones I bought during the sale yet but I imagine they have similar problems. If you look at the community page on steam, a lot of people are having the exact same problem.

I spoke to support 4 times and did everything they suggested, which is exactly what you've suggested.

Graphics card is updated, nothing else is limiting the EA App, I cleared its cache, verified the game on steam, and clean booted windows to try get it to run.

I click Play (and the button changes to Stop as it should), the EA window saying "Preparing game" pops up, then the button changes back to Play from Stop and Steam starts verifying the game for whatever reason. The EA window goes away, the verification completes, and nothing happens.

You're a community manager, and from what I understand, they don't handle bugs or problems like this to do with the game.

I'm only posting this here because I was told to by the support because they acknowledge that it's a global issue.

    Hey @dizziless

Thank you for the additional information and apologize for the delay.

Currently, we have no information if there will be a patch for NFS Heat, as the team did share their final update here

If the steps above did not help us would it be possible to get a DxDiag file?

  • It's not for NFS Heat, it's just Need For Speed, although I bought Heat as well so this does not bode well for installing it. I may have to refund all three of the NFS titles I bought if none of them will even start.

I don't see how a dxdiag will help with a game that doesn't start, but it's attached.

  • Are you guys going to do something to fix this game or do I have to refund it?

    Hey @dizziless

Apologies for the confusion on which NFS we were on.

Looking at your Dxdiag I don't see NFS creating anything in error reports, but do see mentions of Microsoft services.

To confirm, do you get any messages when you run the System File Checker tool?

If not have you tried running your device in a clean boot and then trying to run NFS under different compatibility options?

    Hey @dizziless

With the PS5 controller being a newer one, you may need to download a community controller mapping from Steam settings.

Currently, I don't believe we have full support for the PS5 controller, so some mapping or icons may not be the same.

  • I've tried with an Xbox controller as well though and the same problem occurs.

The button assigned to accelerate does not make the car accelerate and remapping makes no difference.

The accelerate button works fine on a keyboard so why doesn't it work on either controller?

Why does the game not just work straight away? Why would EA release a game that doesn't work with controls that don't work either?
