Get a response from EA a month ago!!! This issue has been going on for an absolute age. All hard reset and everything else never works. Used to love playing this game. How can telling them your gamer tag etc make any difference. IT’S HAPPENING TO SHED LOADS OF PEOPLE. SORT IT OUT!!!
I’ve installed, reinstalled, hard reset, soft reset, gone offline the lot.
Please actually pay attention and sort it, even though it’s old, it’s still good.

The best fix I have been able to come up with, as I just returned to the game yesterday, is to literally keep trying (bear with me on this one!), until it finally does connect, then once in your garage, tab over to All Drive/All Drive Settings/Matchmaking Setting, and choose Private Game.
Since then, I have been able to play absolutely no problem, it's just getting past the hurdle of making that initial connection.
Hope this helps!

i found a easier solution than all of these
if you have a friend that has played need for speed rivals before, they won’t crash, they can invite you to their session and you will be able to join
i did it myself with my other friend

The issues people are having with the game isn't joining, the issue is the game not starting and/or freezing/crashing out to the home screen

what i meant was that my game crashes while i search for a game, and before i searched for a game i accepted my friends invite and it didn’t crash and it brought me into his session

Yes the game does start up sometimes, but for most they can't even get the game to load up, if they can't load up they can't accept any invites. There is someone from EA that is suppose to look into these issues but in order for them to fix it they are asking players to post their xbox gamertag, which xbox system they play on, who is their ISP, if you can post those it would help us all!

Hi,
See in attachment the pictures of my friendly run and arrestation, both done; consider them as a proof of possible multiplayer online.
I concede that the game was not very stable.
In order to promote the stability, we set both of us (the friends) the multiplayer All-Drive in Need For Speed - Rivals, on: Private session, what means in the occurrence that only friends can play together (a more stable game being reached with Single player; the ulterior one was with friend's friends, and finally wholly multiplayer).
I concede that even with these settings additional to Live (form multiplayer with XBox) and EA (for EA games) subscriptions, the game was not stable enough. Also were we on the same location and even sub-net.
Notice that the multiplayer can still be promoted by the UPnP activation on your router, in order to get a stable Network Area Translation (NAT), called "Open".
Instead of doing both of us the 2 trophies in about 20 minutes which should be taken, it took 30 minutes, what means that we lost 10 minutes, only in re-connections, from the one to the other, and reversely.
Notice that the one who creates the session has to invite his friend most probably when he is in his garage, and that once it is done, each one log on the map step-by-step (2 steps for 2 friends); all that, for the highest-stability purpose.-As a matter of a conclusion, I'll say that with all the favourable parameters set, the game still isn't stable enough (maybe it is, with UPnP - I could not test this part), and surely is not optimised for XBox One, since the game is of 2014 and the platform later.
Its multiplayer is not stable enough, but is possible in such.
Thanks for the reading.

I bought nfs rivals on my x a few months ago. I recently got gold and played online. The game froze with a huge glitch. Now I can’t start the game if I’m online. I went to Xbox settings and clicked go offline. This allows me to run the game. Afterwards you can play online. Hope this helps.

I've been playing since November 2019 using the above method, and not had any issues, but seemingly my post must have been missed.
It is ridiculous that EA won't fix the issues with one of their tent-pole franchises though.

I hate to tell you but this is not a fix or a solution, the game will eventually crash/freeze even in private games this has happen to me and others, it might work great for a few times but then it will eventually crash/freeze. Like I said in post #298, the only way to play 100% crash/freeze free is to play offline.

I'll let you know if/when that ever happens, but it hasn't yet.

***SOLUTION:
In order to load/play 100% crash/freeze free you must play offline, you can do this by disconnect your Xbox from the internet BEFORE starting the game. You can disconnect your Xbox from the internet a number of ways but the easiest is to go to your Xbox settings under the Xbox home screen, then under network disconnect internet. Unfortunately, this is currently the only way to start/load/play the game 100% crash/freeze free. NOTE: playing this way doesn't allow you to play with your friends/or strangers, but if you really want to play online with friends/stranger you can do so by starting the game offline, the once in your garage, reconnect your internet BUT just know that once you reconnect to the internet your game might still crash/freeze. Happy gaming! 🙂

This is useless for anyone that is game sharing with a friend or partner though, as being offline affectively disables your gaming collection.

@BBIAJ Be that as it may, this thread is not about multiplayer issues with the game, my solution is on topic for this thread.

My point still stands, anyone that game shares, regardless of if they want to play Rivals in single or multiplayer, can not do so if the solution is to go offline, as they then can't play the game at all.

I don't know how that would work on with game sharing. But how to play rivals without crashing is disconnect from your internet so it can force it to play as single player and then you can turn the internet back on. Then go to the all drive settings and set the game session to private so that you can still play solo, and invite like 5 of your friends with you. Me and @xboxbabe70 and couple others that have reply to this old post have done this method to have fun.

@BBIAJ I understand your frustration but your issue is a completely different problem then the topic for this thread. There for, I would suggest that you start a new thread stating that you can't play the game at all when game sharing, and/or contact EA support. Sorry I couldn't be more help! 🙂

Ok. I haven't played this game in a long time. Today i did a test. I have the new series s so I installed the game on the internal drive. After the install the game loads and goes all the way in. Doesn't crash back to dashboard. I did this 4 times. Everytime same result. Game loaded fine. Now you know the new xbox loads games quick. I am guessing it loads because it is not getting stuck looming for a game. It just finds one.
