Need For Speed Shift 2 Unleashed - Mac Keyboard not recognised.

Hi,

I am running Need For Speed Shift 2 Unleashed on a mid 2011 imac with windows 7 installed via bootcamp.
The game starts up fine and then reaches the 'start screen' where it asks me to press enter.
I press enter nothing happens.
I try various key combinations, nothing happens.
I press shift tab the steam overlay opens, so the keyboard is responding but the game is not recognising it.

I have searched for answers as have others - there is a steam discussion about the issue, see here:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/47920/discussions/0/828935673286589401/

I have searched the forums here, but they do not even support the game!!
I have talked to EA Customer Experience - which was not an experience I'd recommend where there was no help offered other than to look in the forums - which as I've said - don't exist, they recommended I post the issue here.

So I have two questions,
1. does anyone know how to get it to recognise the keyboard?
2. if I were to install a game controller would that work, or would I need to use the keyboard to press enter and advance past this screen?

Other people have the game running on imacs with windows 7 installed via bootcamp as a quick search on youtube can show people showing this off, so the game should work with my setup. I know of at least 5 people experiencing the same issue on various macs.
