I'm not sure that I agree with that, but I propose that we agree to disagree.
Selling a car outside of Japan doesn't make it any less of a JDM car than cars exclusive to Japan. That's why these cars are called imports in other countries, because they are imported from Japan.
@ZeroMcDol Imports is the right word to use.JDM on the other hand is indeed only for Japanese automaker's Japan-spec cars sold officially and exclusively in Japan(Most of Kei-Cars for example)The full name Japanese Domestic(so only in Japan) Market says it all.Hence why I said most of chav cars like Supra/3000GT/Impreza/Skyline(officially sold in Australia and used in ATCC back in 90s) aren't JDM but Kei-Cars like Daihatsu Midget or Honda S660 are JDM.
Those are good points and hence, why I propose that we agree to disagree.
As an example: A Japanese domestic Supra in Japan IS built according to Japan specifications. So essentially any car built by a Japanese automaker and sold in Japan is a Japanese domestic. Regardless of whether an automaker sells their cars to other countries, it still doesn't change the fact the their domestically built cars are built according to Japanese regulations, hence making the domestic versions of the cars, JDM.
It would be like not calling a Viper an American domestic, just because it was sold in another country. Or any other car from any other manufacturer.
Of course, the exception is the 2020 Supra, which is a Toyota-BMW hybrid.
- @ZeroMcDol Viper is indeed a global car.Same as Supra(MK1-4).The only official JDM are Japanese cars automaker wont sell in non-local market.The Supra example you stated is a J-Spec.Even non-Japanese automaker can put out J-Spec cars like Audi or Citroen.So J-Spec works better for most of cars sold in Japanese market,local brand or not.Also Viper was sold as Chrysler SRT-10 in UK(because UK doesn't have Dodge) so it's not American Domestic even without Viper name in other markets.
