It is basically the same as defragmenting your Windows hard drive, where it puts all the files in order again.
However, if you afraid that you might lose files then I would skip it as Sony did indeed display on the help page that in certain cases files might be lost.

DICE TeamI was thinking about having the wrong audio input / output selected. For example, if you a surround sound setup but you don't properly enable this then at certain points in the game the sound will be lost. That does sound like the issue that you're describing to me.
As for the disappearing issue - don't worry about the video anymore as I've forwarded this to be looked at. If we do need more information then we will reach out to you again.
