NFS Rivals on xbox one

I am unable to start the first race, after touring the garage andpressingteright button startthecar - another tutorial screen starts and wontleave even when pressing thebutton - I havetried  2 functioning controllers and been through the intro three times without ever getting past the screen to startthe very first race.
