No menu in need for speed heat

So I just bought this game and it dropped me right into a race using WASD keys which I hate. But there seems to be absolutely no way to remap the keys. Why does pressing escape now take me to an options menu? I just cant understand ANY one calling themselves a game designer thinking this was a good idea. So I have to either play with the key mappings the almighty developer decided I should?? and there is no way to change it? wow gee thanks. great game guys! really! 10/10. Cant even play it. great job.
