Not able to invite and receive invites for online races?

So last night a buddy and me were trying to race online. We made a crew and joined the same game. We could not get to invite each other to join a race. The race looks like it is inviting but he never got any invites. He then tried to invite me and same issue. Then we started talking and realized we have never once seen an invite to a race since being online for the past week.

Has anyone had this issue? Its like online is broken..
